You may have noticed activity dropped on this blog from mid September until, well, now. At the time I was completing a teaching assignment at Louise Arbour Secondary School, an assignment with a very heavy workload. In order to focus on the students, I had to stop productivity on this blog and my creative work. However, the teaching assignment was a lot of fun and a very rewarding and creative experience. I taught English and Global Studies. I designed some really cool assignments and activities. Best of all, I had some of the best students a teacher could want and I probably won’t be forgetting that experience until dementia hits at age eighty. I am now restarting this blog with a renewed perspective. Those students inspired me with the hope they saw in their future. This is going to be a great year because I plan on putting out a lot of new content in the fields of writing, music, photography and film.
So let’s get to business. First the blog has a new look, as you can already see.

On February 1st, my writer’s guild, Toronto Wordslingers, is having our first ever book launch, An Evening of Sex and Romance. This event will be happening at the Arta Gallery, in Toronto. It will commence at 7PM and tickets are on sale in various packages at this link here. The event will be celebrating the launches of debut novels by writers Jody Aberdeen and Lucianna LiSacchi. With a $50 purchase, you get admission for one and both books. With an $80 purchase, you get admission for two and two copies of both books.
In order to promote the event, I decided to use my film production skills and create two trailers for their books. Watch them above. If you’d like to simply purchase these books, there are links below.

Why I Write. Here’s why.

This scene is one of Will Smith’s highest achievements. It was all improvised. And he has a great relationship with his father. I think about that and it marvels me. How does someone give a performance like this without having gone through something like that? How is this just improvised? Some art is magical in how it mimics life. I saw this scene when I was very little. Fresh Prince had a lot of scenes that were very formative for me. This one felt like real life. This is the most powerful scene I’ve ever watched. Nothing has ever really come close. This scene reminds me of what the essence is of what I’m trying to do with my writing. It may all seem dark. It may all seem twisted and creepy and messed up. It may all seem like it’s a plot unfolding. But I’m honestly trying to get to the underlying humanity of why people are the way they are. That has always been my aim. Like Will Smith in this scene, the goal has always been to reach a cathartic depth that transcends the fact that you’re reading a book, a depth that all people can connect with even if they can’t, and to do so all with a crazy handful of nothing.

If you can’t win her heart, win your’s back.
A detail of The Picture of Dorian Gray by Ivan Albright, found at the Art Institute of Chicago. A Moral Event Horizon is a line that a person or character crosses that makes them irredeemably evil.
If all good things come in threes, then why is there only a DUALITY of man?

I was at an art show in Toronto called the OPTIC ELIXER II: Art Show and Party. I decided to portray my experience of the exhibit in a work of art. These are my friends. I’m in the third reel. First reel: Matt. His mouth is an infinite abyss and the last picture looks like a whale cut in half (his words). Second reel: Pauline. She has nice eyes. Third reel: Me. Homer Simpson circa Mr. Sparkle… Mistah Spakluh! Fourth reel: Tony. Think of the first appearance of Heath Ledger’s Joker. The lips.
